what deadline?!!?!?!?!??

Just got back from a week's stay i n Rome for a conference. It was wonderful to finally get to see the monuments and sites that I had only previously seen in slides or books. Of course, there was just too much to see all at once, but I think I managed quite a bit in the 8 days I was there. I even had time to go to Florence for the day to see some of the sites there, too!!

I saw the Colosseum and Roman Forum (of course), Palatine Hill, Trajan's Forum, the Pantheon, St. Peter's Basilica (which houses Michelangelo's "Pieta") in Vatican City, the Campidoglio, a slew of Renaissance churches and sculpture, as well as an exhibit from China which featured the terracotta soldiers from the Qin emperor's tomb! And in Florence I saw the Galleria Uffizi which has an innumerable amount of Renaissance painting, including Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" and "Primavera," the Bargello which houses Donatello's "David" and Michelangelo's "Baccus," I walked across Ponte Veccio and saw all the (expensive) jewelry shops, walked around San Lorenzo's open-air market, and FINALLY saw Michelangelo's "Slaves" and "David" in the Accademia (went through the gallery three times to fully enjoy the sculptures!!! *silly grin*).

The entire trip was amazing. And everywhere you went, they were all starting to get decorated for Christmas, so you could see that they were getting into the spirit. They even put a giant Christmas tree in front of the Coloseum, the first time they had ever done that!!! It was beautiful!! I can't wait to go back again and see everything that I missed this first time around...as well as maybe go visit some of the sites I've alrady seen but enjoy them at a slower pace this time around!!

So, now that the conference and presentation paper is all over and done with (even got a copy of my published article!!) I can refocus on finishing all the radar processing I still have to complete...

GOALS for this week: finish processing and write reports by SATURDAY!!!

(wish me luck!)
